The Colorado Rockies rallied for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning off the St. Louis Cardinals bullpen to beat the Cardinals 4-3.  They Rockies had been held to only four hits in the first seven innings of the game by Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright but then they lit up the Cardinals bullpen.

Matt Holliday got the scoring started for the Rockies with a triple to deep right field that scored Omar Quintanilla.  Ryan Spilborghs then singled to left field to score Holliday.  Chris Iannetta then tripled to deep right field to score Garret Atkins and Spilborghs.

Rockies starting pitcher Jeff Francis ran into some trouble early in the game as he only pitched five innings.  Francis gave up six hits and three runs including a home run in the fifth inning.

Ryan Speier ended up picking up the win as he pitched the eighth inning.  Speier is now 1-1 on the season.  Closer Brian Fuentes pitched the ninth inning to pick up his third save of the season.

The Colorado Rockies had the Philadelphia Phillies right where they wanted them until Manuel Corpas blew the save and the game in the ninth inning.  The Rockies were up 6-5 heading into the ninth inning, but Corpas gave up a bases loaded double to Pat Burrell and the Phillies went onto beat the Rockies 8-6.

Jeff Francis pitched seven innings and gave up six hits and four runs. Francis deserved a much better outcome then a no decision but sometimes that is just how it goes.  Matt Herges allowed one run in the eigth inning before Corpas blew the game.

Matt Holliday and Garrett Atkins both hit home runs for the Rockies.  Holliday’s was a solo home run while Atkins was a two run shot.  Both Holliday and Atkins finished with two RBI while Willy Taveras and Jeff Baker both provided one RBI.

The Rockies will now play the red hot Chicago Cubs in a quick two game series.

The Colorado Rockies got off to a good start during their spring training season as they beat the Chicago White Sox 7-3.

Matt Holliday and Troy Tulowitzki led the Rockies on the offensive side of the bal.  Holliday had two hits including an almost homerun that he hit off the wall.  Tulowitski smashed the first ball he seen for a home run as well.  Rockies fans are going to hope they hear that Holliday and Tulowitzki led them to victory alot the season!

Jeff Francis started on the mound for the Rockies and gave up one run on three hits over two innings.   Pretty good showing for Francis’s first start of spring training.

Colorado Rockies manager Clint Hurdle has said that lefty Jeff Francis would be the opening day starter for the Rockies.  Francis was almost the opening day starter last year but Aaron Cook beat him out.  It will be Francis’s first opening day start.
