The Colorado Rockies have won three games in a row after they defeated the San Francisco Giants by the score of 4-3 on Monday night.  The Rockies still have a long ways to go to get back into contention, but this is a good start and they will be playing a lot of games at Coors Field in the next 30 games so they should be able to pick up some ground in the division I would think.

Jason Grilli picked up the win and is now 1-0 on the season.  Grilli pitched 2/3 of an inning after Jorge De La Rosa was taken out after 5 1/3 innings.  De La Rosa gave up four hits and three runs in the game to get the no decision.

Matt Herges and Taylor Buchholz pitched the seventh and eighth innings without allowing run to cross the plate.  Brian Fuentes then came in to record his sixth save of the season.

Yorvit Torrealba had the big hit for the Rockies when he had a two run double in the sixth inning.  Torrealba tried to stretch the double into a triple but was thrown out at third base on the play.  Clint Barmes hit a solo home run while Garrett Atkins had a rbi single in the game.  Todd Helton went 0-4 in the game as he is kind of struggling on the season with a .268 average.

Jeff Francis the one pitcher that was thought to be the “ace” of the staff remains winless after falling to 0-4 on the season after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.  The Diamondbacks got to Francis early in the game as they had six runs on the board after only two innings of action and went onto win 8-4.

Francis ended up pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up thirteen hits and eight runs.  He now has a 6.27 era on the season, and that definately isn’t going to get the job done.  I know some Rockies fans are wondering what the hell is going wrong with Francis.

Jeff Baker led the Rockies with two rbi in the game.  Baker had a sac fly in the second inning and then a infield hit rbi in the fourth inning.  Garrett Atkins and Jonathan Herrera both had a rbi in the game as well.  Atkins hit a solo home run off of Randy Johnsn and Herrera had a rbi single in the fourth inning.

It will be interesting to see how the Rockies respond on Wednesday when they play the Diamondbacks once again.  Rockies Blog

The Colorado Rockies rockied St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle Lohse around with four runs int he first inning alone as they went on to beat the Cardinals by the score of 9-3.  With the win, the Rockies were able to manage a split in the four game series with the Cardinals.

Jorge De La Rosa pitched 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win for the Rockies.  He allowed five hits and two runs in the five plus innings of action.  Manny Corpas tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of De La Rosa which was nice to see.  Matt Herges came in for Corpas and pitched one inning while allowing one run.  Taylor Buchholz pitched the final inning without allowing a run.

Garrett Atkins and Chris Iannetta both finished the game with two rbi.  Iannetta continues to hit the ball very good at the plate for the Rockies.  Todd Helton, Ryan Spilborghs, Clint Barmes, and De La Rosa all had one rbi in the game.

Monday night’s game against the San Diego Padres is one game that Colorado Rockies sure want to forget about.  The Rockies were shut out by Matt Cain and the Giants by the score of 4-0 as the Rockies record dropped to 10-16 on the season.

Garrett Atkins and Yorvit Torrealba both had two hits, but the rest of the lineup was pretty much silent.  The Rockies had some chances as Cain walked five batters, but the Rockies stranded 19 runners so the walks didn’t come back to hurt Cain really.

Franklin Morales took the loss for the Rockies.  Morales tossed 4.1 innings and gave up six hits and four runs.  Morales had control problems as he walked five batters and only struckout one batter.  Kip Wells, Ryan Speier, and Josh Newman finished out the game on the mound and did not allow a run to score.

The Rockies are going to need to turn things around if they want to have any shot at making a return trip to the playoffs.  Right now, it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.  Do you think they will?

The Colorado Rockies had the Philadelphia Phillies right where they wanted them until Manuel Corpas blew the save and the game in the ninth inning.  The Rockies were up 6-5 heading into the ninth inning, but Corpas gave up a bases loaded double to Pat Burrell and the Phillies went onto beat the Rockies 8-6.

Jeff Francis pitched seven innings and gave up six hits and four runs. Francis deserved a much better outcome then a no decision but sometimes that is just how it goes.  Matt Herges allowed one run in the eigth inning before Corpas blew the game.

Matt Holliday and Garrett Atkins both hit home runs for the Rockies.  Holliday’s was a solo home run while Atkins was a two run shot.  Both Holliday and Atkins finished with two RBI while Willy Taveras and Jeff Baker both provided one RBI.

The Rockies will now play the red hot Chicago Cubs in a quick two game series.

The Colorado Rockies lost at home on Monday to the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 9-5 putting the Rockies at 9-10 for the series.  The Rockies bullpen just couldn’t stop the Phillies in the eigth and ninth innings as the Phillies put up five runs in the final two innings of the game.

Mark Redman opened up the game for the Rockies pitching for five innings giving up six hits, four runs, and no walks.  The Rockies brought in Matt Herges, Taylor Buchholz, Brian Fuentes, and Micah Bowie to pitch the last four innings with Buchholz picking up the loss putting him at 1-1 for the year.  Bucholz gave up two earned runs, and Bowie gave up three earned runs.  Bad performance by Bucholz and Bowie.

All five of the Rockies runs came off of home runs.  Yorvit Torrealba hit a three run home run in the second inning and Garrett Atkins hit a two run shot in the fifth inning.

The Rockies will face off against the Phillies one more time again tonight at home for the 2nd game of the series.

The Colorado Rockies lost 6-4 on Sunday against the Houston Astros.  Even though the Astros are struggling this season, they were able to hold the Rockies to four runs putting the Rockies at a split 9-9 for the year.

Ubaldo Jimenez opened the night up for the Rockies pitching for five and two thirds innings giving up five hits and three runs.  Kip Wells, Brian Fuentes, and Ryan Speier were all brought in to pitch against the Astros but were unable to prevent the loss.   Fuentes took the loss for the Rockies as he gave up three runs in the eigth inning.

Garrett Atkins hit his 3rd home run of the year against Shawn Chacon in the 6th inning.  Brad Hawpe, Todd Helton, Garrett Atkins, and Troy Tulowitzki all drove in a RBI as well.

The Colorado Rockies will now welcome the Philadelphia Phillies to the Rocky Mountain state for a two game series starting Monday night.  Will they be able to come back from this loss and pick up the win?

The Colorado Rockies scored seven runs in the ninth inning to beat the San Diego Padres 10-2.  It was a close game until the Rockies exploded in the ninth inning and put the game out of reach for the Padres.

What is shocking is that the Rockies did not hit one home run in the game yet they still put up 10 runs.  Troy Tulowitzki, Garrett Atkins, and Clint Barmes all had two RBI. Ryan Spilborghs, Scott Podsednik, Brad Hawpe, and Chris Iannetta all finished with one RBI each.

Mark Redman picked up the win for the Rockies.  Redman only pitched five innings as he gave up three hits and two earned runs.  Matt Herges, Taylor Buchholz, Brian Fuentes, and Manny Corpas all pitched in relief and all did a great job.

The Denver Post is reporting that The Colorado Rockies and Garrett Atkins have agreed on a one year contract that will pay Atkins $4.38 million dollars.  The Rockies and Atkins pretty much met in the middle of Atkins asking price and what the Rockies offered him.  Atkins will be under the Rockies control through the 2010 season.

**Also look for news about Brad Hawpe in the next day or so**
