Rockies win despite pitcher’s broken leg

The Colorado Rockies beat the struggling Cincinnati Reds 9-2 in the National League on Wednesday, earning their sixth consecutive victory despite losing starting pitcher Aaron Cook to a broken leg. Cook was struck in the lower right leg by a line drive off the bat of Joey Votto in the sixth inning. The team initially reported the injury as a bruise, but X-rays revealed a fracture.

Rockies beat Reds for 5th straight win

Carlos Gonzalez is hearing something other than the crack of his bat at home plate in Coors Field. Colorado Rockies fans have started paying homage to the outfielder, chanting "M-V-P" in recognition of his memorable season. Gonzalez hit a three-run homer to help the rolling Rockies beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 on Tuesday night for their fifth consecutive win.

It's impossible to talk about the San Diego Padres' 2010 season without using some variation of the word "surprise." As in, they were surprisingly good for so long that it's pretty surprising they've fallen so quickly. On Aug. 26, they had 76 victories and were — surprisingly (OK, shockingly) — tied with the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the loss column in the race for baseball's best record. When Labor Day arrived, they still had 76 victories.

Rockies bring up catcher, activate Daley

The Colorado Rockies have reinstated right-hander Matt Daley from the 60-day disabled list. Daley was 0-1 with a 3.74 ERA in 26 games for Colorado before going on the DL June 16 with an inflamed pitching shoulder. The Rockies also recalled Mike McKenry from Triple-A Colorado Springs to serve as their third catcher down the stretch.

Tracy ejected for arguing call in sixth

Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy has drawn his second ejection of the season. Tracy was tossed by home plate umpire Paul Emmel in the sixth inning of Thursday night's game against Philadelphia. Tracy argued vehemently after Emmel ruled that a pitch had struck Mike Sweeney on his right hand with the bases loaded, driving in a run.

Rockies send Padres to 9th straight loss, 6-2

Rockies reinstate RHP Cook from 15-day DL

The Colorado Rockies have activated right-hander Aaron Cook from the 15-day disabled list and will start the sinkerball specialist Friday night in San Diego. Cook has been sidelined for a month with a right toe injury. He enters the game on a three-game skid, allowing five runs in each of those starts.
