Each of the San Francisco Giants walked back onto the field after the final out and gathered near the pitching mound to offer their gratitude. What a drastically different encore than a year ago. No follow-up postseason run for the defending World Series champions to provide an extra month of thrilling baseball for the Bay Area.

Alex White had all sorts of command problems, which is nothing new for Colorado’s rookie pitcher. The results were pretty predictable, too. This season can’t get over quick enough for the Rockies. That’s the shocking reality for a team that spent 38 days in first place in the NL West but is headed for its worst finish since 2005.
