The Colorado Rockies got off to a hot start against the Atlanta Braves and beat them 12-6 on Wednesday night at Coors Field.  The Braves have won the first three games of the four game series and will be going for the four game sweep if they can get the game in on Thursday as snow is in the forecast.

Ryan Spilborghs and Yorvit Torrealba led the Rockies at the plate.  Spilborghs hit a three run home run and finished the game with five RBI’s while Torrealba hit a three run home run and finished the game with four RBI’s.  Matt Holliday continued to swing a good bat and had two RBI while Todd Helton finished the game with one RBI.

Mark Redmond pitched five innings to pick up his first win on the season.  Redmond allowed serven hits, three runs (two earned), and struckout three batters.  The Rockies did have some problems in the bullpen late in the game as Kip Wells and Matt Herges let in a combined three runs.

The Colorado Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves by one run once again.  On Tuesday night, the Rockies beat the Braves by the score of 4-3.  Once again it was Matt Holliday leading the way for the Rockies has he had two RBI’s.

After Holliday, Garret Atkins and Brad Hawpe had one RBI each.

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched six innings to pick up the win.  He allowed six hits and three earned runs.  I think he could have pitched better, but it was nice to see him pick up the victory.

Manny Corpas picked up his third save of the season by closing down the Braves in the 9th inning.

Matt Holliday once again excited the crowd at Coors Field with a heroic homerun.  Holliday hit a two run homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning that gave the Rockies a 2-1 lead over the Atlanta Braves and they held on for the victory to improve their record to 2-5.

Matt Herges picked up the win and Manny Corpas picked up the save.  It was Herges first win on the season, and Corpas’s second save.  Starting pitcher Aaron Cook pitched seven great innings and only allowed two hits and a first inning earned run.  Great performance by the Rockies pitching staff!

The Colorado Rockies didn’t open up the 2008 season at Coors Field how they had planned as they got smoked by the Arizona Diamondbacks by the score of 8-1.  Great pitching by Micah Owings and a lot of hitting by the Diamondbacks put the Rockies in a hole right from the beginning.

Mark Redman got the start for the Rockies but only lasted 5.2 innings while giving up nine hits and four earned runs.  The rest of the Rockies pitchers didn’t do that good either as Matt Herges, Taylor Buchholz, and Manny Corpas all threw one inning and gave up one earned run each.

The only offense the Rockies could mustar was a solo homerun by Todd Helton in the 7th inning.  Other then that the Rockies offense was pretty bad and held down by Micah Owings and the rest of the Diamondbacks pitchers.

The Rockies will try to even the series tomorrow as they have Jeff Francis going against Brandon Webb.  It should be a very good game with both teams ace’s starting the game.

The Colorado Rockies lost a close 3-0 ballgame on Thursday to the St. Louis Cardinals.  After losing on Thursday, the Rockie’s record now stands at 1-2 on the short season.

The Rockies need to have a better offensive performance then they did against the Cardinals if they want to make any run at the post season in 2008.  The Rockies were only able to score 5 runs in the entire three game series.  The weather could have had something to do with that, but you still have to battle just like the other teams.

What do you think Rockies fans?  Give this team some time at Coors Field and then lets see how they do?
